LAUTERBACH, EDWARD H.
LAUTERBACH, EDWARD H. (1844–1923), U.S. lawyer, business executive, and politician. Lauterbach, who was born in New York City, was admitted to the New York bar in 1866. He was president of the Baltimore and Southern Railway, organized the company which installed New York City's underground electric light and telegraph cables, and wrote one of the first regulatory laws passed by the New York State Legislature which imposed statewide standards on streetcar line operations and liabilities. Lauterbach was also active in New York State Republican Party politics for many years. He was a chairman of the committee of public charities and a longtime trustee of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum.
